This is a VERY old post.
It’s only here for archival purposes, these instructions will most likely not work
Well, just came back from work and I just finished installing Windows XP on my MacBook Pro. The process is very very simple, the biggest frustration is getting the CD to burn, which is not bad at all.
Things start kinda weird, since as soon as you insert the CD, you will see the windows screen on the upper 1/4 of your screen as show below (my apologies for the crappy pictures)
After a few minutes, it turns to full screen and displays the Windows installer. I can’t help but think on how happy the hackers that managed this were when they got this screen:
Once the installer copies all the setup files from your CD, you must remove the CD or you will get this screen (which only stalls and gets nowhere):
After some time, you will boot and get Windows on your MacBook:
Funny thing is that the first time you use Windows, you think you are using some kind of emulation and expect it to really crawl. Luckily, that is not the case, its as responsive (or more so) than my work Wintel laptop. There are still some issues unresolved which make somewhat skeptic on running this OS, the biggest is a fan issue. I’ll wait some time to see if someone fries his laptop because of this.
The biggest gripe right now is that there are no graphic drivers, so you can’t play games (#1 reason to have Windows on the Mac no ;). There is even a contest for the first person to get the video drivers working. The same hackers that won the original contest are working on the drivers, so hopefully it will be resolved soon. For the latest MacBook drivers, visit this Wiki site. I for one, will watch from afar until all the Windows on Mac issues have been resolved before popping in Quake 4 on this puppy.
