My MacBook Pro

Not long ago I had purchased a Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz. It has been one of the best machines I have ever used. Good battery life, amazing display, light, and could endure a lot of traveling. Apple recently released a new portable, the MacBookPro (above) that has an Intel processor. This machine is a lot faster than any of its predecessors, and while Apple’s claim that it runs 4x faster than before may be farfetched on some scenarios, this puppy can encode video a lot faster than any Mac I have ever seen.

If you look closely at the picture above, you will notice that the screen is actually a Windows XP installation screen! The contest to install Windows XP on a Mac was won as I am typing this I am burning the CDs that will be used to install XP on my awaiting FAT32 partition.

Many do not realize the blessing this is for us Mac users that need Windows to do their work. I am pretty sure it will run fast, the real question is about the drivers that are not available, how long ago until they are?

Furthermore, the fact that this machine has an Intel processor makes it possible for companies such as Microsoft and VMWare to release virtualization software that will allow you to run virtual OS without the hassle of rebooting a new partition. Since the processor is Intel, VPC and other software can run software and OS at almost native speed, and that is going to completely rock! In my next blog I’ll post about the perils encountered when trying to get Windows XP to install on this sweet sweet portable 🙂
